Default The Broadsheet Bully is Back...in radio form

Scott’s Shots has confirmed the emerging rumor that ex-Boston Globe and accused plagiarist Ron Borges will be part of the re-launched effort at WEEI.com.

“I think (it’s) a pretty bold move,” said WEEI’s Gerry Callahan via email. “I know I look forward to reading him.”

“He’ll make the Patriots nervous and I’m sure Bill Belichick will be pissed off having him back around,” said Callahan’s co-host, John Dennis. “(Borges) is someone who compels you to log on and read what he has written. Yeah, he’s stubbed his toe a few times. But he knows what he’s doing and he’s still extremely well connected throughout the league.”

Although neither Dennis nor Callahan were sure on the specific role that Borges will play for the website, a separate WEEI.com source confirmed Borges will be writing a Patriots-centric column, twice weekly for the site (one post-game and one later in the week). Borges and previously-announced acquisition Mike Felger, will anchor the site’s Pats’ coverage. It’s still not clear how much - if any - air time Borges will receive on WEEI.

“I’m not sure how much cross-pollenization there will be,” said Dennis. “But I would have him on our show, sure.”

I think it's time for Coldhard to dig out a few "Ron Borges Classics" from the CHFF archives in celebration of this event.

Didn't he do one of the training camp reports for NFL.com as well?

He's been a football writer going back to the 70s when he covered the post-Madden Raiders for, I think, the San Jose paper.

Since he was forced to leave the Boston Globe, he's been doing a lot of freelance-type work. Some of it involves boxing, which really is the sport he's most knowledgeable about, and some of it involves football. So I'm sure he's done some reports for nfl.com during the last couple of years.

Patriots' fans revile him as the guy who never met a Belichick decision that he wouldn't unfairly rip in print, on the airwaves, or anywhere his views could be heard.

In 2006, near the end of his Globe career, he finally admitted on a radio show, after several years of denying it, a personal dislike for Belichick. A dislike that was clearly palpable if you just read anything the man wrote about the Belichick-Era Patriots during the 7 seasons he covered them (2000-2006).

Borges let his coverage of the team be affected by his personal likes and dislikes, and that's simply a no-no in that profession (although it's clearly unavoidable, since we're all human, it's still a good idea to TRY to hide your hatred for the subject of so many of your articles--Borges never even tried to hide it sometimes).

Personally the guy i like reading the least is Prisco. No Facts, awful opinions and a grating writing style. Always trying to make out he's great mates with every player.

Sorry, I didn't realize you knew who he was. Being from England, I figured that you were one of the lucky ones who wasn't exposed to Borges very often.

The sad part is that he's been covering football for over 30 years and does have a good knowledge of the game. In fact, he was the guy who spearheaded Andre Tippett's election to the Hall of Fame this year, because Borges covered those Pats teams in the mid-80s and he was able to convince the other voters that Tippett was in fact an all-time great at his position.

Yeah, no offense was taken mate. to be fair before i started reading CHFF i didn't know who he was, but afterwards i read some of his stuff out of morbid curiosity.
Still dunno what i think of HoF great idea and all but people like Moon Fouts and Namath seem to cheapen it, in many ways.

Gad Damn It. I hate Ron Borges, having him polluting the airwaved around Boston is a terrible thing....it was bad enough reading that they hired him, but he will end up on that show...and he will rip the organization in just the same way that he used to.

That will be a truly unlistenable radio combination B&C&D.

Oh christ, the nightmares that bring. D&C (and Meder or whatever) are bad enough. But Borges too? I would rather shove my head inside a horse's ******* because the sounds would be more enjoyable.

Oh and someone brought up Prisco, he's really ****ing awful too.

But I hate 90% of the "professional" sports writers in Boston. They're all pretentious, useless, crybaby fat bodies. The only one I ever really liked was Michael Smith, but he's slowly been slipping down the shit drain ever since he started being on TV for ESPN. I have no idea what it is about "mainstream" writers but they're all ****ing idiot hacks who think that their journalism degree some how means they know more about a sport.

As a side note, this forum had the "you were active in this thread" icon thing for this thread and I didn't have a reply until this one. Very odd.

I blame Borges. Fat ****.

I'll tell ya....WEEI is not stupid in making this move, however, and I'll tell you why.

Last season, in the wake of Spygate and then the mid-season controversy over whether or not the Pats were running-up-the-score on certain opponents, the WEEI morning show became the voice for the anti-Patriots contingency out there.

A feud--real or contrived, but a feud nonetheless--soon developed between the WEEI morning show guys and the WEEI afternoon drive-time show guys (a VERY pro-Patriots group of hosts for those of you not from the Boston area--Patriot pom pom wavers of the highest order in fact).

Adding Borges to the morning show's roster only increases the likelihood that this "feud" between the D&C morning show and the "Big Show" in the afternoon will intensify during the coming football season, and that means "edgier" radio shows with the hint of tension in the air---which also means more listeners (it's one thing to tune in just to hear analysis the day after a game; you can get that almost anywhere, but if you like a little soap opera mixed in with your analysis, then WEEI will be the place to go during this season).

Actual, the anti-Patriots shit from the morning show became so ridiculous that I just stopped listening to the station all together. Biased in either direction, as journalists they're supposed to keep to the facts and maintain some sort of integrity.

Neither show does that now. They're both gimmicks and shells of what they used to be.

Borges was the guy who said Belichick was "walking the plank" when he installed Tom Brady as the starter and that he would "regret" trading Bledsoe to Buffalo. How badly do you need to be discredited before you go curl up in a corner and die?

Seriously, go read his commentaries on the Brady-Bledsoe debate from 2001. Some of the stuff he wrote is almost painful to read given how history worked out.
