Old Guns Tom Brady, Peyton Manning Still NFL's Best Bets

Cold, Hard Football Facts for Jul 30, 2013

Tom Brady and Peyton Manning may be the Old Guns in a league filled with rising young stars at quarterback.

But these deadly accurate future Hall of Famers still lead the most dangerous teams in football in the eyes of the Pigskin Public.

The folks from Bovada.lv released their latest expected season win total lines, and those two familiar old names still top the list.

Manning and the Denver Broncos lead the board, with a 2013 win total over-under of 11.5. Brady and the New England Patriots are just a half game behind at 11.0, despite the attrition in the receiving corps, lowlighted by the Aaron Hernandez murder scandal.

That attrition in Foxboro has moved the board:

"The Patriots total, due to the loss of Hernandez and the status of Gronkowski, has dropped from 11.5 to 11," said Bovada.lv sports book manager Kevin Bradley. "And in turn the Dolphins who are also getting bet pretty heavily have moved from 7.5 to 8.”

Bottom line: Manning and Brady are well into the back nine of their respective Hall of Fame careers. But the public still expects the two quarterbacks and their two teams to be the most succesful in football this year and to battle it out right to the end.

Keep in mind the Patriots host the Broncos in primetime on Sunday, Nov. 24, a little pre-Thanksgiving appetizer highlighted by the greatest QB rivalry in NFL history.

The defending NFC champion San Francisco 49ers are the only other team garnering such lofty pre-season expectations, also with an over under of 11 wins on the Bovada board.

The Falcons, Packers, Texans and Seahawks all enjoy double-digit win expectations, according to Bovada.

“NFL Season Win Totals is one of our most popular bets here at Bovada, and as a result, we have had some significant movement based on the amount of money we are taking on certain teams," said Bradley. "Arizona, with our second lowest total of 5.5 wins has seen 90 percent of the action on the over which is the same case for New Orleans, who are only taking over money on their total of 9."

The biggest surprise on the board is probably the Kansas City Chiefs. Kansas City went just 2-14 last year and was the worst team in football by many measures, including our Quality Stats Power Rankings. But the over-under on the Chiefs this year is 7.5 wins. Our advice? Take the under.
