Give it up for the 2000 Ravens. They fielded the worst offense ever to win a Super Bowl … and the best defense ever to win a Super Bowl.

Of the 10 stingiest defenses in Super Bowl history, the Ravens are the only unit that ended the season by hoisting the Lombardi Trophy.

The 2000 Ravens are truly one of the great defenses ever to play the game. Perhaps the greatest ever.

Not only were the stingiest defense ever to win a Super Bowl, they're the greatest defense of the Live Ball Era (1978-present). Several defenses in modern NFL history were tougher than that of the 2000 Ravens (click here for a complete list), but all played in the Dead Ball Era.

The only Live Ball Era Super Bowl defense to come close to the 2000 Ravens was the legendary "Steel Curtain" of the 1978 Steelers. Yet even they allowed nearly 2 PPG more than the 2000 Ravens. They also had the benefit of playing in the first year of the Live Ball Era, before offenses had exploded the way they had throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

How tough was this Ravens defense? They won a championship with the worst offense ever to win a Super Bowl.
