Final 2005 Hog Index

Denver in the Mike Shanahan Era has been known for its ability to open up big holes for its ballcarriers, no matter who may be lugging the leather. The Cold, Hard Football Facts Hog Index shows in statistical terms that this reputation is well-earned: The Broncos boasted the top offensive line in the NFL last year.

The final 2005 Hog Index rankings are found in the chart below.

The Hog Index is compiled by Cold, Hard Football Facts contributor Jonathan Comey. It rates the quality of each offensive line in the NFL based upon their ability at three primary jobs.
  • opening holes for the ground game
  • protecting the quarterback
  • dominating time of possession
