Final 2009 Defensive Passer Rating
Cold, Hard Football Facts for January 4, 2010
Final 2009 DEFENSIVE PASSER RATING UPDATE
Data is accurate through the end of the 2009 season. The Saints provided the most obvious example of the importance of Defensive Passer Rating in 2009.
Most pigskin "pundits" looked at New Orleans and saw a pass defense that ranked a mere 26th, because they surrendered a whopping 3,961 yards. Many of these "pundits" assumed, then, that the Saints were vulnerable against Peyton Manning and the Colts in Super Bowl XLIV.
But we looked at Defensive Passer Rating and saw one of the best pass-defense units in football. As a result, we told you this defense would make a big play against Manning and that the Saints would win the Super Bowl. You know what happened: New Orleans DB Tracy Porter nabbed a pick-six in the fourth quarter to salt away a 31-17 Saints Super Bowl win.
Remember, follow our Quality Stats, and they'll almost always lead you down Porter's path: that's right, straight to the pigskin promised land.
