The Cowboys had no glaring statistical weaknesses last year. But neither did they have any obvious strengths. So they continued a trend made evident in the 2005 draft by loading up on young aggressive talent along the defensive front seven. Three of their first six picks were linebackers and defensive linemen. Dallas did little, however, to address its needs along the offensive line, selecting a guard and a center with its last two picks in the seventh round. The offseason addition of Terrell Owens may bolster the receiving corps, but that might mean little for a team that desperately needs to keep people away from its immobile quarterback.

Dallas's 2006 picks:
Round 1 (18) – OLB Bobby Carpenter, 6-3, 255, Ohio State

The Giants fielded one of the worst pass defenses in football last year and have stocked up on plenty of DBs in free agency. But they failed to take one on Draft Day until their sixth pick. The Giants were also among the league leaders with 41 sacks last year, but they still opted for a pass-rushing specialist with their only first-round selection.

New York's 2006 picks:
Round 1 (32) – DE Mathias Kiwanuka, 6-6, 265, Boston College
Round 2 (44) – WR Sinorice Moss, 5-8, 184, Miami (Fla.)
Round 3 (96) – ILB Gerris Wilkinson, 6-3, 239, Georgia Tech
Round 4 (124) – DT Barry Cofield, 6-4, 303, Northwestern
Round 4 (129) – T Guy Whimper, 6-5, 305, East Carolina

Philly's offensive woes got all the attention last year – from Donovan's McNabb's injury to Terrell Owens's circus-freak sideshow and ultimate benching. Still, the true statistical dive came on the defensive side of the football. The Eagles ranked No. 2 in scoring D in their 2004 Super Bowl season, but just No. 26 in scoring D last year. They did grab a pair of defensive linemen with their first three picks in an effort to shore up a porous line. They also addressed their most glaring need – an utter lack of ability (or desire) to run the football – by grabbing a pair of bulky offensive lineman. Georgia guard Max Jean-Gilles could turn into a high-value pick. He was posited by some "pundits" as a very high pick. The Eagles grabbed the mammoth 356-pound guard in the 4th round.

Philly's 2006 picks:
Round 1 (14) – DT Brodrick Bunkley, 6-3, 307, Florida State
Round 2 (39) – T Winston Justice, 6-6, 320, USC
Round 3 (71) – DE Chris Gocong, 6-2, 264, Cal-Poly
Round 4 (99) – G Max Jean-Gilles, 6-4, 356, Georgia
Round 4 (109) – WR Jason Avant, 6-0, 213, Michigan
Round 5 (147) – WR Jeremy Bloom, 5-9, 172, Colorado
Round 5 (168) – OLB Omar Gaither, 6-1, 233, Tennessee
Round 6 (204) – DT LaJuan Ramsey, 6-2, 296, USC

The Redskins had just one statistical weakness last year: their passing game. This inability to pass the ball was made obvious last year in the playoffs, when Washington mounted just 120 yards of total offense and a sickly 25 yards through the air in a playoff win over Tampa. The 'Skins did nothing to address this need in the draft and have done little in the offseason. It's hard to believe free-agent signings Antwaan Randle El at wide receiver and Christian Fauria at tight end will turn around a relatively inept passing attack. Washington seemed more interested in stocking up on a defense that was among the best in the league last year. The Redskins devoted five of its six picks, including its first four, to defenders.

Washington's 2006 picks:
Round 2 (35) – OLB Rocky McIntosh, 6-2, 236, Miami (Fla.)
Round 5 (153) – DT Anthony Montgomery, 6-5, 300, Minnesota
Round 6 (173) – S Reed Doughty, 6-1, 208, Northern Colorado
Round 6 (196) – DT Kedric Golston, 6-4, 301, Georgia
Round 7 (230) – G Kili Lefotu, 6-4, 316, Arizona
Round 7 (250) – ILB Kevin Simon, 5-10, 236, Tennessee
