Slow year for passing YPA winners
Cold, Hard Football Facts for October 16, 2010

In the past, we've shown you the power of the YPA.  In the first two weeks of 2010, teams that won the passing YPA battle won the game over 72% of the time.

Never ones to shy away from beating a dead horse, we have followed that trend out through Week 5.  The table below shows the win-loss record for teams that won the YPA battle in each week.

Week Won Game Win %
1 11-5 68.8%
2 12-4 75.0%
3 7-9 43.8%
4 9-5 64.3%
5 8-6 57.1%
Total 49-27 61.8%

The last three weeks have not been proven the strength of YPA the way the first two weeks (and last season) did.  In fact, Week 3 was the first slate in recent memory that YPA winners did not have a winning record.  And, in Week 5, Chicago (with a 1.3 YPA) beat Carolina (1.7) in a game that did for the passing game what Keith Richards did for teetotalling.
