The near-beer of preseason football
Cold, Hard Football Facts for March 31, 2009
Pre-season football is a lot like non-alcoholic beer: you swallow it begrudgingly, if only because the real thing isn't available, and with appreciation for the fact that 0.5 percent alcohol is better than none.
So it is that we looked over the preseason schedule that the NFL released yesterday, with the realization that it's the only liquid that will soothe our parched pigskin palates before September.
The preseason kicks off Sunday, August 9, with the Hall of Fame Game from Canton, Ohio, featuring the Bills vs. the Titans – two of the original AFL franchises who will be celebrated here during the league's golden anniversary. Bills founder and owner Ralph Wilson will be inducted into the Hall of Fame the day before the game.
There will be 10 other nationally televised preseason games all 12 playoff teams from 2008 will be featured at least once.
