Awesome super-fact-filled divisional round press releases
Cold, Hard Football Facts for January 9, 2008

Here are our links to the awesome press releases issued each week by the postseason contenders.

As we noted last week, these releases are chock full of great tidbits of data that journalists plug into their reports and articles. We simply cut out the middlehack. After all, these releases are pretty well done, often more interesting and definitely more informative than what you read and see in the news, and much of what they offer never sees the light of day.

The divisional teams have a combined winning percentage of .758, just the sixth time since the 1970 merger that the final eight topped the .750 mark.

Hard to believe, but America’s Team is seeking its first postseason victory in more than a decade.

“The Dope Sheet” is the coolest team release in the NFL. The Packers, who went 13-3 in 2007, have played for a championship the three previous seasons they won 13 games (1962, 1996, 1997).

The Colts have won 17 postseason games in their history, seven of them since coach Tony Dungy joined the team.

The Jaguars face the Patriots for the fourth time in the playoffs (1996, 1998, 2005). They’ve battled only one other team more than once in the postseason (Denver, twice).

The Patriots have not lost a home playoff game in more than 29 years (9-0 since losing wild-card game to Houston on Dec. 31, 1978).

The Giants seek just their second road playoff win since their Super Bowl championship season of 1990.

San Diego
No release yet. We’ll publish it when we get it.

Coach Mike Holmgren (170-109) can tie Joe Gibbs (171-101) for 10th on the all-time victory list.
