NE remains on record-setting scoring pace
Cold, Hard Football Facts for November 5, 2007

The Indy defense knocked the snot out of New England for three quarters yesterday and held the Patriots to a season-low 24 points.

But New England remains on pace to set the all-time NFL scoring record, with an average of 39.44 PPG (355 points in 9 games). The current record is held by the 1950 Rams, with 38.83 PPG (466 points in 12 games).

What are the odds the Patriots can keep up the explosive scoring pace they set in the first half of the season?

Well, it won't be easy. Five of New England's final seven opponents rank in the top half of the league in scoring defense, and the list includes the No. 1-ranked scoring defense from Pittsburgh. Here's a look at what the Patriots face defensively in their final seven games:
  • Buffalo –   19.5 PPG, 13th (NE scored 38 on Bills in first meeting)
  • Philly – 19.4 PPG, 12th
  • Baltimore – 17.0 PPG, 6th
  • Pittsburgh – 13.0 PPG, 1st
  • NY Jets – 25.3 PPG, 27th (NE scored 38 on Jets in first meeting)
  • Miami – 30.5 PPG, last (NE scored 49 on Dolphins in first meeting)
  • NY Giants – 19.9 PPG, 14th
