Jeffrey Chadiha, congratulations. You are officially worse than Pete Prisco.
We've been reading this ESPN.com "senior writer" for awhile now, and we're ready to pronounce him the worst major football writer in the country.
While Mr. Chadiha, who covered the NFL for Sports Illustrated, is more adept at turning a phrase than the grammatically-challenged Mr. Prisco, he just brings nothing to the table.
Consider his latest piece, "Pats' D Missing Two Key Elements." To start, the headline is a candidate for the Duh Hall of Fame ... well, yes, they are missing two key elements, Rodney Harrison and Richard Seymour. Good analysis! Chadiha goes on to say that they will be missed. Really! He then concludes that the Patriots won't jump off to a fast start, because they play good teams, and they don't have two key defensive players.
He offers no reflection on the Pats' ability to survive without injured players in the past, nor does he look at the roster to find a deep secondary and defensive line. He just says they're in trouble. Hell, he might be right, but a little effort to show why never hurts.
The rest of his piece is equally poor -- and all of his stuff is like this. Go ahead, read through his archives -- you can see the man going through the motions in front of his laptop, reflecting on his glory days with SI and wishing Walter Iooss would return his calls.
ESPN has opened the floodgates for punditry, and they've put Chadiha's stuff in high profile areas. But a shiny resume doesn't make for a good hire, and they must be realizing that in the halls of Bristol.
Mr. Chadiha, we don't know you, but we beg: take your job a bit more seriously -- a million slobs out there would love to have it, even if it feels like internet slumming to you.
Class dismissed!
