There’s a reason Elvis is "The King" ... and you, and we, are not.
Quite frankly, we couldn't pull off the sequins, the high collar, the scarf, the sideburns and the innovative, ahead-of-its-time capstone mullet. It takes a true original to make that work. (The killer voice doesn't hurt, either.)
And, like football and pulled pork, Elvis, dead 30 years today, was a true American original. Here he is belting out a trio of American standards in Hawaii in 1973, right before he blew up like an overfed tick. Enjoy.
